Indian cinema also had moments to be proud of at Cannes. Payal Kapadia's 'All We Imagine As Light' won the 'Grand Prix' award at the 77th Cannes International Film Festival. This is the first time that an Indian director has won the Grand Prix. Malayalam actors Kani Kusushi and Divya Prabha played the lead roles in the film, which is 80 percent Malayalam. Aziz Nedumangad also played a character in the film.
The film, which premiered at Cannes on Friday, received a huge reception. The audience stood up and applauded for eight minutes. 'All We Imagine As Light' is the story of Malayalee nurses Prabha (Kani Kasumi) and Anu (Divya Prabha) who struggle and survive in Mumbai. Payal Kapadia is also the screenwriter of the movie, which was shot in 40 days in Mumbai and Ratnagiri.
