Chidambaram scripted and directed the survival thriller film 'Manjummal Boys' under the banner of Parava Films, which changed the history of Malayalam cinema and became the highest grossing Malayalam film. The film released theatrically on 22 February 2024 and collected more than 240 crores from the theatres. Now the news related to the copyright of the song 'Kanmani Anpot' in the film is being discussed on social media. But the producer says that using the song in 'Manjummal Boys' is legal.
Ilayaraja's wife sold the audio rights of the song 'Kanmani Anpot' to Pyramid Audios years ago and Pyramid Audios sold the rights to Music Master and Sridevi Video Corporation. Parava Films has legally acquired the music rights of the Tamil song from Music Master and the Telugu rights from Sridevi Video Corporation to include it in 'Manjummal Boys' after several years.
The song 'Kanmani Anpot' was used in 'Manjummal Boys' with permission. The rights of the song are owned by Pyramid and Sridevi Sounds music companies. He had bought the rights to use the song from them. The rights of the song in all the languages released by 'Manjummal Boys' have been purchased not only in Tamil. No legal notice has been received from Ilayaraja in this regard,' said producer Shawn Antony.
The theme of 'Manjummal Boys' is about a group of friends traveling to Kodaikanal from Manjumal in Kochi and the unexpected situations they face. Soubin Shahir, Srinath Bhasi, Balu Varghese, Ganapathy, Lal Jr., Chanthu Saleemkumar, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Deepak Parambol, Khalid Rahman, Arun Kurien and Vishnu Raghu played the central characters in the film. Produced by Babu Shahir, Soubin Shahir and Shaun Anthony. Parava Films and Sri Gokulam Movies have brought the film to the audience. All India distribution of the film was handled by Dream Big Films on behalf of Shree Gokulam Movies. RFT Films also acquired UK distribution rights. OTT rights are owned by Disney Hotstar.
